India is a popular destination for many. If you are planning a trip to the Indian subcontinent, you should apply for the right visa at an early stage. For tourists there is an option of applying for the regular tourist visa or an an e-Visa.
Because of its diversity millions of tourists are attracted towards India. But before you board the plane to the South Asian country, you have to take care of a visa. And that can take some time.
Tourist Visa
- The tourist visa applies to tourists, visitors and participants of temporary yoga programs
- Duration: up to one year or up to five years
- One-time entry or multiple entry possible
- Valid from the day of the exhibition
- Costs: 95 euros (up to one year), 190 euros (more than a year)

India travelers now have to pay significantly more for a visa than before. The Indian authorities now charge German citizens 82 instead of 51.25 US dollars (71 instead of 44 euros) consular fee.
Several visa services had informed about the price increase in the network. German travelers have to apply for an electronic visa (e-TV) for India.
e-Visa or e-Tourist Visa (eTV)
- The electronic visa applies to tourists, visitors and temporary medical treatments.
- Duration: up to 60 days
- Twice entry per year

What do I need for the visa?
You need these documents for the tourist visa application:
- The completed visa application.
- Money for payment of the processing fee.
- Passport with at least two free pages and valid for at least six months.
- Two identical passport photos (5 cm x 5 cm).
- Two-sided copy of the identity card or registration certificate (postal application).
- Return or onward ticket (e-Visa).
- Addressed, franked return envelope (postal application).

How long does it take to process?
The e-visa must be requested no later than four days before departure. But, apply plenty of time before, as there are occasional problems and delays in visa applications.
Can I extend the visa?
The answer is No, you cannot. You need to reapply a new Visa.
